As of January 1st 2019, the City of Raleigh has changed it’s setback requirements for all accessory buildings. This is listed under Raleigh City Ordinance TC-2-2018 Accessory Structures.

Accessory structures and sheds in Raleigh with gross floor area of 150 square feet or less and height of 10 feet or less shall have a minimum setback of 5 feet from side and rear property lines.

No Raleigh accessory structure or shed may be located closer than 6ft to any other building or structure on the same lot.

Accessory Structures that are larger than 150 square feet or taller than 10ft must be located a minimum of 10ft from side and rear property lines. The maximum wall height is 12ft and the maximum height is 16ft.

Carolina Yard Barns can help you through the permitting process. A typical City of Raleigh permit for a shed is about 10 pages long with the application and supporting documents. The City of Raleigh does require that you have a survey of your property in order to apply for a building permit. Give us a call today at (919) 365-5555 if you have any questions.
